PROMPT
Design espresso cups and saucers for a *secret*, upcoming space. In particular, these pieces should take inspiration traditional Italian style and be glazed with a “bone white” glaze. If possible, each piece should have a logo.
INSPIRATION
For these pieces, inspiration came from the traditional Italian style the customer was looking for. In this style, pieces were rounded with a simple saucer to go with them. Modern espresso sets leaned towards angular designs with cleaner lines and sharper angles.
PRELIMINARY DESIGN
For preliminary design, I went in two directions: (1) a more modern approach and (2) a traditional approach. The more modern approach borrowed the sharper angles and straighter lines found in more modern vessels, whereas the traditional approach aimed to replicate traditional designs with function in mind.
Both designs are intended to hold 60-90 mL of espresso, just enough volume for 2-3 standard shots. These designs are optimized for the most common way Italians serve espresso: doppio.
Regarding LOGOS, they can be added in one of two ways. The first option is a stamp directly into the piece, or a clay “patch” may be added to the surface of the piece. See the images below:
